Storyboarding, LPC

CLASS: Foundation Design, Storyboarding (VCom Department).

ASSIGNMENT / OUTCOME: Students were asked to choose a Mother Goose Nursery Rhyme and deconstruct the verse into a 6 panel layered storyboard. They were given 5 different dingbat fonts (pictures and icons) and instructed to use these for story content. Working in Adobe illustrator in layers (foreground, middleground and background), they were only allowed to manipulate the scale and value of the font icons for their final storyboards.

The storyboard, an invention of the Walt Disney Company, is a blueprint for a liner narrative and is applicable to a number of creative projects. Learning to tell a story is important as storytelling is deeply ingrained in our species. Narrative can be found in most human endeavors. Learning to use shape, value and timing to tell a story, contributes to the sophistication of our students at Las Positas College, giving them a competetive edge in academics and business.
